Our projects.

Our collaborations with clients range from one-off projects to long term multi-phase engagements. We also produce our own projects that explore issues we’re passionate about, or advance our thinking. Recent projects include:

Towards trusted and trustworthy automated decision-making
The Digital Council for Aotearoa New Zealand was tasked with advising the government on key issues around public trust and government use of algorithms and automated decision-making. We wrote the Council’s major research report for 2020, and worked collaboratively with the Council and other research partners to provide policy analysis and advice.

Communicating the future of fish
Future of Fish is a US-based non-profit that works with fishers and communities to end overfishing and ensure thriving coastal economies. We work with Future of Fish to tell the tale of the fishers and systems at the center of their mission in writing, through public communications, and with beautiful graphics, videos, and reports.

A blueprint for digital inclusion
The New Zealand government were developing a blueprint for increasing digital inclusion in New Zealand, looking into the root causes behind digital inequality and shaping a work agenda. We worked with the Government to write and design the Digital Inclusion Blueprint Te Mahere mō te Whakaurunga Matihiko.

Improving Wikipedia’s gender trouble
We founded Edit for Equity in 2018 to improve the coverage of women and non-binary New Zealanders on Wikipedia. The project included five edit-a-thon events, during which participants learned how to edit and create Wikipedia pages. Over 23 new Wikipedia pages were created, and 130 existing Wikipedia pages were improved.
